Leadership Reflection and Assessment
The Big Five personality trait assessment is an assessment is a suggested taxonomy, or grouping, for personality traits. This test was developed in the 1980s in psychological trait theory. This assessment had five factors openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Like most test the individual answers a series of test that are categorized, rated, and scored based on the answers.
The Big Five assessment makes you really sit and think about yourself and your actions and emotions. I took the assessment making sure I was truthful and honest about my answers. I scored the highest in conscientiousness, and extraversion. I was not surprised by these results as I often try to be sociable friendly, and reliable and organized. These traits go hand and hand with my leadership style. I want to be someone my peers and subordinates can look up to. These traits symbolize good work ethic and a person that people feel comfortable being around and talking to. This would also encourage others around me to want to replicate the same energy making the workplace enjoyable.
I scored the lowest in neuroticism. This score made me want to reconsider my own emotions. Neuroticism represents emotional instability also meaning to lack self-control. I often feel that I do put a lot of energy into making others happy than myself. When I look at this it could be a positive and negative. The positive aspect is that I’m always giving my all to others and making sure everyone is ok. I do this by simply going on my way to make everyone smile. The negative is that self-care is important as well. You can not continue to take what you do not have in the end it’ll leave you empty.
I think the Big Five assessment is great tool for self-assessment. I think this tool can give us an understanding of things that we struggle with and life. Although not answering the questions truthfully will not give you realistic results, causing the individual to wonder.
