Annotated bibliographies are a first step in you getting familiar with your research topic. For this assignment you will collect both primary and secondary sources and give annotations about how they will help you in your research. When you are giving descriptions, you will need to give the major argument of the author, why it relates to your topic, and how you plan on using it. Remember, your secondary sources will feature this pattern as this will make up the background, historiographical context. The secondary sources will serve to create an understanding of what is known in the field you are looking to study. The primary sources are another matter. With primary sources you will need to establish the validity of your sources and how your author can or cannot be trusted. This is crucial because this will establish how you approach developing the facts in your argument.
For example, can Stalin be a trustworthy source at face value or must we work to place his letters and notes within the broader context of documentary evidence. Consider this when approaching primary sources, like you have been with your primary source evaluations.
Your annotations will include at minimum 4 primary and 4 secondary sources. You will provide 100-150 word annotations of each source.
